enhanced lumens

Lumens are camera-less photography dating back to the 1830s when William Henry Fox Talbot placed foliage on sensitized paper and exposed it to sunlight. This created a negative print or a photogram from which postitive contact prints could be made. Today the basic process is exactly the same.

Julie expands the basic process by adding vinegars, lemon juice, salt and spices to co-create with her plants during the exposure process. She then scans and smoothes the prints digitally creating the ethereal images you see here.

Photogravures

Polymer Photogravures is an alternative photographic process that creates a positive from a negative on a transparent sheet. The sheet is then contact printed on to a light sensitive plate, inked as one would in ethcing and put through a press.

Chine Collee is a print making technique in which the image is transferred onto a surface that is bonded onto a heavier support in the printing process. This allows printing on a much more delicate surface, such as washi paper.

A La Poupee is a historic intaglio printmaking technique for making colored prints by applying different ink colors to a single plate prior to printing.

These prints are unique and one of a kind.
